KATIE HUGHES, MSW, LICSW

There are times in life when things feel off, when we can’t show up for others or ourselves in the way we would like. Whether you’re experiencing sadness, anxiety, fear, anger, grief, or even just emptiness, these feelings can keep you from living the life you want-–the authentic life you truly deserve. Oftentimes when this happens, things might even look ok to someone on the outside, but how you feel on the inside just doesn’t match.

Asking for support from a therapist to work through these challenges is a brave step. Through a therapeutic relationship based on trust, respect, and lack of judgment, I work with clients to help examine experiences, behaviors, and beliefs that have put blocks in their path. I believe that the work of therapy, while oftentimes scary and challenging, is ultimately wonderful and transformative, helping to bring about a new and healthier way of showing up in the world.

In my work, I support older adolescents and adults in addressing a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, substance abuse, life transitions, self esteem and identity issues, and trauma. In addition, I have specialized training and interest in working with people struggling with compulsive behaviors, addictions, and codependency. Because each person is different, I believe in using a variety of techniques that center the client’s needs and goals above all else.

While no two sessions with me will ever be exactly the same, at the core of all my work is a deep-held belief in the strength and resilience of the human spirit. I believe in art, creativity, and humor to help get us through. And I definitely don’t believe there is one perfect way to do life. All of us are just trying to do the best we can on this path, but sometimes we need a little help and support along the way. I would be honored to provide that support to you, whether it’s for a short time or through a longer part of your journey.
