I’m here to remind you that it’s possible to learn how to be exceedingly kind to yourself again-to learn that empathy is a muscle that can be trained and strengthened-and that that empathy is not just for others but for yourself too. All too often life gets hard and we decide that we don’t have the capacity to love ourselves or that love is too tender, too vulnerable, in this time of stress.
Sometimes we get so anxious about getting things right the first time that we forget there can be a second, third, fourth…millionth time to try again. Maybe that can be where I help. Let’s try again, and this time, with me as support.
I believe that therapy is a highly personal experience. I aim to create a space where you can be safe and free to bring all of yourself without the fear of judgment or shame. My role as your therapist is to listen and support you as you learn about yourself, others, and new ways of being in the world. Our sessions are YOUR space. With that in mind, I encourage candor and feedback in the counseling space, knowing that it only serves to better your experience and growth in the therapeutic process.
My approach is deeply client-centered. I focus on harm reduction and a trauma-informed renewal of your inherent strengths, solutions, and support networks. I view my work through an anti-oppressive/social justice lens and am committed to increasing my own awareness and resistance to the systems that perpetuate structural inequities in race, gender, and socio-economic status among others. From a therapeutic orientation perspective, I draw on practices within Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Existential Therapy, Mindfulness Practice, Somatic Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.
I received my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Northwestern-St. Paul in psychology and my Master’s in Social Work degree from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. I look forward to partnering with you in your therapy journey!
